September 18 at 1:00 p.m.

Join The Morton Arboretum to celebrate the opening of The Grand Garden this Sunday, September 18, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. This lush, colorful new garden will showcase the beauty and diversity of plants throughout the seasons alongside soothing water features, pergolas for shade, and three main spaces for celebration and joy for years to come. Live music, face painting, and refreshments available for purchase in Arbor Court will be featured at this family-friendly event. Docents will also be on hand to discuss history, landscaping, and plants with guests. Reserve your timed-entry admission now.

Attend the Fall Color Festival this Season
The fall season is quickly approaching and the Arboretum has fun, festive events for the whole family to enjoy at the Fall Color Festival. Take on a scenic, rolling course through the fresh autumn air at the Fall Color 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, October 1. Sip and sample local wines at the Fall Color Wine Tasting on Thursday, October 6. Enjoy one-of-a-kind glass creations at the Annual Glass Pumpkin Patch for exquisite, handblown glass art celebrating the beauty of autumn on Wednesday, October 12 through Sunday, October 16. Savor ciders and seasonal beers at the Cider and Ale Festival on Saturday, October 22. 

Visit the Arboretum throughout October to stroll the path along Meadow Lake to see the friendly faces of Scarecrow Trail, enjoying scarecrows handmade by local scout troops and schools. Walk along with Winnie the Pooh in a classic adaptation of this beloved children's tale performed among beautiful landscapes with colorful trees each weekend during Walking Plays.

Illumination tickets on sale soon! 
Celebrate the tenth annual Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum. Explore 50 acres of the Arboretum's majestic trees during this one-of-a-kind spectacle of color, light, and sound. This year's event will feature returning favorites, as well as six dazzling new displays, and the first-ever Illumination display in the new Grand Garden, leading to a spectacular laser-light finale. Tickets go on sale to members and the public on Saturday, October 1.

New Event: Celebración de los Árboles

Experience the diverse and vibrant cultures of Latin America at Celebración de los Árboles on Saturday, September 24. This new family-friendly event will have storytelling by Chris Fascione, music by Mariachi Sirenas along with a performance by the Teotlecuilli Aztec Dance Group. Food trucks will serve signature dishes, and the Children's Garden will feature bilingual programming. Tickets are included with timed-entry admission to the Arboretum.

Adult Education

Explore the intersection of agriculture, climate, the environment, and justice in Toward Resilient and Equitable Food Systems (online) on four Tuesdays, starting September 20. Take a photographic journey through the Arboretum across decades and seasons in Light Through the Trees: Twenty Years of The Morton Arboretum in Photographs (in person) on Wednesday, September 28. Experience the healing and wellness-promoting effects of nature during LGBTQ+ Forest Therapy Walk (in person) on Saturday, October 1. 

Family Programs

Drop-In Acorn Express Adventures are available every Wednesday and Thursday through October for a family-friendly tram ride and adventure. Preschoolers can hike, play, listen to stories, and engage in science and art activities in Little Sprouts, a hands-on, sensory-based program.

Upcoming Events

Shop a selection of individual and pre-mixed bulb sets for a beautiful spring display in your garden at The Arboretum Store's Annual Bulb Sale starting on Friday, September 23. Enjoy intimate classical concerts in the Arboretum's beautiful Thornhill Education Center during Chamber Concerts, on select Sundays starting November 6.
