Round Lake man found with gun after being stopped for driving on suspended license for 7th time Posted: 06 Jun 2022 11:01 AM PDT A Round Lake man is facing charges after police caught him driving on a suspended license for his seventh time. Officers also found him illegally possessing a gun. Alejandro Llanos Jr., 26, of the 200 block of South Primrose Lane in Round Lake, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, driving on a suspended license, registration light out and loud muffler. A Round Lake Park police officer was parked at the police station monitoring traffic on May 24, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Caitlin Valiulis said during a bond hearing. A black Chevrolet Impala went past westbound on Main Street in Round Lake Park. The registration lights were out and the officer could not read the plate. The vehicle’s muffler was also making a “loud and unusual noise,” Valiulis said. Llanos was driving the vehicle and told the officer he had just bought the car and knew the muffler had a leak. Valiulis said that Llanos provided the officer with a driver’s license, which was suspended. He also did not have car insurance. Llanos, who has been caught driving on a suspended license for the seventh time now, told the officer he was unsure why his license was suspended, Valiulis said. The officer asked the man if he had any guns and Llanos told the officer he did not have any. Llanos was arrested and officers were doing an inventory for the towing of the car when they found a Glock 23 handgun with a laser sight underneath the driver’s seat, Valiulis said. A loaded extended magazine for the gun was found within reach of the weapon. Llanos has a Firearm Owner’s Identification card but no concealed carry license. Llanos admitted to possessing the gun and said he put it there because he was going to North Chicago to drop off a co-worker, Valiulis said. The man told police that North Chicago is a “problematic neighborhood.” Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak set Llanos’ bond at $10,000. He was released from the Lake County Jail after posting $1,000 cash. |
