The Grayslake Fire Protection District and Grayslake Police Department responded around 9:55 p.m. Sunday to Rollins Road and Sheldon Road in Grayslake for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

The rear end of the Chevrolet became “disjointed” and the remainder of the car traveled across all lanes of Rollins Road, Perlini said.

The car then struck a curb and tree on the south side of the roadway.

The male driver was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Perlini said he did not know the condition of the victim, who remains hospitalized as of Monday afternoon.

The driver is currently unable to be interviewed by investigators due to his injuries.

It is unknown if he was intoxicated, Perlini said, adding that the roadway was wet at the time.

The coroner’s office has released the identity of a North Chicago man who was killed after he hit a utility pole and trees and then rolled his car over in Wadsworth Sunday.

An autopsy showed that Carlos A. Martinez, 45, of North Chicago, died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries in a vehicle crash, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Newport Township Fire Protection District responded around 3 a.m. Sunday to the 16400 block of West Route 173 in Wadsworth for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Sheriff's deputies located a red 2002 Chevrolet Blazer on its side off the roadway on Route 173 east of Mill Creek Road.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ari Briskman said that Martinez was unresponsive.

Firefighters and paramedics found the man was trapped in the vehicle, which sustained heavy damage, and determined he was deceased.

No one else was inside the vehicle besides Martinez.

Investigators from the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation showed the Chevrolet was traveling eastbound on Route 173 approaching Mill Creek Road.

Briskman said the Chevrolet enter entered the westbound lanes of traffic for an unknown reason and went into the embankment on the north side of the roadway.

The Chevrolet struck a utility pole and trees before coming to a stop on its side.

Crash investigators and the Lake County Coroner's Office are working to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash, Briskman said.

Toxicology results from Martinez are pending, Newton said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.

A Kenosha man is wanted for allegedly striking a police officer with his vehicle and recklessly fleeing from officers in Johnsburg, court documents allege.

Andrew D. Quella, 32, of the 7900 block of 25th Court in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, fleeing and attempting to elude an officer, and reckless driving.

The incident happened on March 18 in Johnsburg, according to court documents.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Quella, who was driving a red BMW Z4, a criminal complaint alleged.

Officers asked the man to exit the vehicle but he refused and attempted to drive away in his BMW, the complaint said.

An officer suffered bodily harm after his arm was hit by the fleeing BMW, the complaint said.

Quella led officers on a pursuit through multiple jurisdictions, including into McHenry.

The complaint said that Quella drove recklessly during the pursuit with a “willful or wanton disregard for the safety of the public.”

The complaint alleged that Quella changed lanes multiple times without using his signal and was speeding and tailgating other drivers.

In addition to his criminal charges, Quella was cited for four counts of improper turn signal, speeding, improper stop without a signal and following too closely.

A warrant was issued for the man in late March, court records show. Quella is not in custody and remains wanted.

Bill passes Illinois General Assembly that will ban sex offenders from working at amusement parks, state fair

A bill has passed the Illinois General Assembly that would ban sex offenders from working at carnivals, amusement parks and the state fair in Illinois.

The soon-to-be law was co-sponsored by State Representative Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa).

Last year, the Illinois State Fair severed its deal with Miller Spectacular Shows, which was in the first year of its 10-year contract with the state to operate rides at the state fairgrounds.

The Department of Agriculture fired the company after it was discovered that they hired a convicted child sex offender to work on a children's ride at the fairgrounds.

The registered sex offender had been released from jail six months prior.

“Parents and children should feel safe while enjoying themselves at the state fair,” Weber said. “Unfortunately, our laws have not been sufficient enough to keep these kinds of people away from the children.”

Currently, state law only bans registered sex offenders from operating machinery or working on the premises of county fairs but does not mention state fairgrounds or other amusement sites, Weber said.

Senate Bill 3019 makes it illegal for a child sex offender to knowingly, operate, manage, be employed by or be associated with any carnival, amusement enterprise or county or state fair when persons under the age of 18 are present.

“This law will close the loophole that allowed a child sex offender to work a kiddie ride at the state fair last year,” Weber said.

“These people have no business being anywhere near children and unfortunately around children is likely where they would want to be employed. State law and state protocols need to be tougher,” he said.

SB 3019 passed the Illinois Senate unanimously and the Illinois House on a 104-2-5 vote. It now awaits the signature of Gov. JB Pritzker.

Weber cited a case where police recently arrested four Disney employees in a large undercover human trafficking operation in Florida.

One of the employees was attempting to send explicit communications to an underage girl.
