Area police departments make April Fools’ jokes about bison that remains on loose from Wauconda area Posted: 01 Apr 2022 05:14 PM PDT Area police departments took to social media Friday to make April Fools’ Day jokes about the bison that has been wandering around the Wauconda area since escaping from its owner months ago. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that they “cannot confirm or deny” a post made in the “Wauconda For Wauconda” Facebook group that “Tyson the Bison” might be responsible for some of the damage that has happened to the historic Long Grove Covered Bridge. The photo posted in the Wauconda group showed a bison edited onto a photo of the Long Grove Covered Bridge from when it was heavily damaged by a box truck in June 2018. The bridge has become well-known as it has been hit by oversized vehicles over 30 times in recent years, according to the sheriff’s office. The Island Lake Police Department also took to social media Friday by posting a photo of their “new” police patch with a bison on it. “Great news, everyone! Turns out, Billy the Bison had wandered off into the prairie, on a rite of passage. After months of meditation, honing her survival skills, extensive tae kwon do training and foraging on wild mushrooms, she has returned. She's massive, muscular and grew out some glorious horns of justice,” the post said. “She will now be used by the Island Lake Police Department as a patrol bison. We have changed our patch to reflect the changes. We had to get rid of the patrol camel because he wouldn't shut up about Wednesdays,” the post said. “Tyson the Bison,” also called “Billy the Bison,” has been on the loose in the western Lake County and eastern McHenry County area since mid-September. Authorities said the owner of the animal reported it missing to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The bison was being corralled into an enclosure from a trailer when she managed to escape. Police said that the owner accepts it as a loss but hopes it will return. The animal has been spotted dozens of times by Wauconda and Island Lakes residents, who have taken videos and photos and posted them on social media. This week, the bison was spotted in the Lake Zurich area, residents reported. Police have also urged residents to drive carefully and not approach the bison, which remains on the loose over six months after it escaped. |
North Chicago man arrested for driving 114 mph while intoxicated on Route 41 in Highland Park Posted: 01 Apr 2022 02:37 PM PDT A 27-year-old man was arrested after police say he drove 114 mph on Route 41 in Highland Park while under the influence of alcohol last weekend. Jorge Fuentes, 27, of the 1100 block of Adams Street in North Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding 35 mph or more over the limit. Fuentes was driving a vehicle northbound on Skokie Valley Road near Chantilly Boulevard in Highland Park around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. A police report said that Fuentes was stopped by police north of the intersection for speeding 114 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Officers determined that Fuentes was also driving under the influence of alcohol, the report said. He had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit. Officers arrested Fuentes and transported him to the Highland Park Police Department. He was released from custody on a recognizance bond without needing to post a cash bond, police records show. Fuentes is scheduled to appear in court on May 13 for an arraignment hearing. On March 17, a Waukegan man was arrested for excessively speeding on Route 41 in Highland Park while driving under the influence. Nathan A. Gonzalez, 18, allegedly drove 124 mph on Route 41 north of Half Day Road, a police report said. |
Posted: 01 Apr 2022 01:42 PM PDT The coroner’s office has identified a 76-year-old Wisconsin woman who died after a crash involving two trucks and a car on Interstate 94 in Deerfield Thursday. Janice Bosco, 76, of Burlington, Wisconsin, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a vehicle crash, according to Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton. The Illinois State Police, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District responded around 2:05 p.m. Thursday to Interstate 94 at mile marker 24. The crash involved three vehicles in the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 north of Deerfield Road, according to the Illinois State Police. The crash involved a Chevrolet Malibu, a semi-tractor-trailer truck and a second truck, the coroner’s office said. District 15 troopers found a victim, later identified as Bosco, with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics transported the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The Lake County Coroner’s Office said Bosco was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital. Troopers and Illinois Tollway HELP Trucks shut down the left two lanes of Interstate 94 westbound as emergency crews responded to the scene. No one else involved in the crash was injured. The lanes remained closed for several hours Thursday afternoon as state police investigated the incident. The coroner’s office said an autopsy was performed Friday on Bosco. Toxicology results are pending. The Illinois State Police has not said how the crash occurred or who was at fault. |
