Man With Ax Shot and Killed By Security Guard Outside Chicago Weed Dispensary: Police

A man wielding an ax was shot and killed by a security guard outside of a weed dispensary in Chicago on Labor Day, authorities said.

Police said the incident happened just after 10 a.m. in the 200 block of South Halsted, when a man got into a verbal altercation outside of a business with a 37-year-old man working security.

The man ultimately began swinging an ax at the security guard before striking him in the leg.

Teen Critically Injured After Being Assaulted by Large Group, Shot in Back of the Yards

A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after he was assaulted by a large group of individuals and then shot in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the teen was walking in the 4400 block of South Wood Street at approximately 3:47 p.m. Monday when he was approached by a group of at least six individuals.

Those individuals began to assault and batter the victim, and then one of the suspects pulled out a weapon and shot the teen in the chest and back, according to police.

Chicago-area pharmacies are among the first offering up doses of the new "bivalent" COVID booster shots, with more availability expected to open up this week.

Nearly 50 people have been shot so far over the long Labor Day weekend in Chicago, with seven people killed in the violence and more than 40 others wounded.

The first fatal shooting of the weekend was reported in the 4400 block of West Jackson around 6:30 p.m. Friday.
