It's Almost Time to 'Fall Back.' When is Daylight Saving Time?

You've heard the terms before: Spring forward, fall back.

Daylight saving time is coming up, which means Illinoisans will soon turn their clocks back a full hour. And while many may see it as an extra hour of sleep, for others, it marks time when the days get shorter and darker.

And for some, the change can even have significant health impacts on a person's body.

How Long Are You Contagious With COVID? The Incubation Period Has Changed, Top Doc Says

COVID's incubation period has changed with the extra-contagious BA.4 and BA.5 omicron subvariants, Chicago's top doctor said, but what does that mean for how long you are contagious?

During a Facebook Live last month, Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady reported that recent studies have shown the incubation period for COVID has dropped to three days with recent variants.

"So if you go back to like alpha variant, beta, delta – early on, it was about a five-day incubation period on average. So, if you were exposed to COVID, on average we were seeing people take about five days for someone to end up testing positive – and remember that went from four to five, out to 10, out to 14," she said. "The reason … we only use 10 days now, it is because that timing has shortened. And so, more recently with BA.4, BA.5, that's all the way down to about three days now. So on average, people are testing positive about 3 days after, but you can have someone positive up to 10 days."

Ald. Howard Brookins Jr. Announces Retirement, Joining Several Others Who Won't Return

Ald. Howard Brookins Jr. announced Wednesday that he will retire from City Council after serving nearly 20 years as alderman of the 21st Ward.

"For the 19 years that I have served alderman of the 21st Ward, I have walked in the footsteps of my father, and I took pride in modeling servant leadership for our beautiful communities," Brookins said in his announcement. "I am thankful for having the trust of my community as we worked together to provide greater economic opportunity and prosperity for our people. While my decision means new leadership will step into place."

Brookins, who's Ward includes Auburn-Gresham and Washington Heights, says he wants to "hand the baton over to a new generation of leaders who can make sure the movement for racial justice and economic equity is sustained into the new political era."

Is a Rash a Sign of COVID? Here's What to Know About Symptoms

According to the latest COVID update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the BA.5 lineage of the omicron variant is now the most prevalent strain of the virus in the U.S., and that variant comes with a shift in symptoms. But what if you have a symptom that isn't among the most common?

As cases continue to occur, many are curious about what symptoms typically appear with COVID, and if there are specific symptoms, like rashes or headaches, related to different variants — particularly BA.5.

"We're continuing to track this," Chicago's top doctor, Dr. Allison Arwady, said in an update last month. "In the more recent cases of COVID — which, again, are these newer variants — there's a few things that I noticed. First of all, the biggest one is that people are so much less likely to get seriously ill. And that means that the immune system is better at as being able to protect against against that severe illness."

5 Things to Know About The Bears' Plan to Leave Soldier Field, Move to Arlington Park

Tuesday, the Chicago Bears released a lengthy statement alongside the first renderings of a sprawling master plan to acquire and potentially redevelop 326 acres of property in Arlington Heights at the site of the town's former Arlington Park, a nearly 100-year-old horse racecourse once dubbed "The most beautiful racetrack in America."

"If the team does proceed with the purchase of the Arlington Park property, and if the Bears organization then chooses to proceed with the development of the property, the project will be one of the largest development projects in Illinois state history," the statement reads.

The potential move — currently under contract and still far from closed — isn't without its fair share of controversy, with the city of Chicago trying to convince the Bears to stay, and some Arlington Heights residents speaking out against having to potentially foot the bill for a new build.
