Free, At-Home USPS COVID Tests From the Government Are No Longer Available

A program that delivers free, at-home COVID tests to every U.S. household via United States Postal Service officially came to an end Friday, a statement on the program's website reads.

"Ordering through the free at-home test program was suspended on Friday, September 2 because Congress hasn't provided additional funding to replenish the nation's stockpile of tests," the statement says.

PHOTOS: 36 Rescued Beagle Pups Arrive at Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society

Dozens of sweet, smiley, floppy-eared beagles arrived at Chicago's Anti-Cruelty Society overnight Friday as part of a national effort to rescue 4,000 Beagles from a breeding and testing facility in Virginia.

According to a spokesperson, the 36 1-year-old Beagle puppies were recently rescued from Envigo, a research and breeding facility in Virginia that was recently found guilty of dozens of federal regulation violations, resulting in dogs becoming injured, ill and underfed.

Earlier this month, 100 beagles arrived at a shelter in South Elgin as part of the same rescue effort.

5-Year-Old Dies Days After Being Shot While Riding in Vehicle in Rogers Park

A five-year-old boy has died five days after being shot in the head while riding in a vehicle in Rogers Park, friends and family say.

Police say the shooting took place Aug. 28 at approximately 5:02 p.m. in the 7600 block of North Paulina, when the driver of a black Hyundai pulled up near the vehicle 5-year-old Devon McGregor and his father were riding in. According to authorities, the driver of the black Hyundai then opened fire.

Devon was struck in the head and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The second victim, Devon's father, 25, sustained a gunshot wound to the left hand and shoulder. He was last reported in good condition.
