Jury convicts man of second-degree murder for chasing down, fatally shooting teen in Volo Posted: 29 Mar 2022 05:02 PM PDT A Round Lake Beach man was convicted Tuesday of second-degree murder for shooting and killing a 17-year-old boy who he confronted after finding him in his stolen car in Volo. Lynell P. Glover, 37, of the 2300 block of North Old Pond Lane in Round Lake Beach, was convicted of second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Glover had been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said he was satisfied with the verdict and hoped it provided the family with closure. “We are satisfied with the verdict and hope this provides the family with some closure even though Anthony can’t be brought back. Mr. Glover started the fight, shot the boys after the altercation, and then hid the gun afterwards,” Rinehart said. “The jury correctly saw that Mr. Glover was wrong to take the law into his own hands. We will continue to support the family through sentencing and beyond,” he added. Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Scheller said during a bond hearing that Glover’s vehicle was reported stolen on December 30, 2020, from his Round Lake Beach residence. Glover found out his vehicle was near the Speedway gas station at Route 12 and Route 120 in Volo around 2:40 a.m. on January 3, 2021. He followed the vehicle southbound on Route 12 when the stolen vehicle, which was occupied by two 17-year-old boys from Carol Stream, ran out of gas, police said. The stolen car pulled into a parking lot near the Platinum Autobody, 31223 North Route 12, and an altercation ensued, Scheller said. Glover called 911 and dispatchers could hear him yelling in the background, “Get on the f***ing ground or I’ll shoot you.” Scheller said that Glover allegedly chased the two teens and shot them as they were running. Officers arrived and found both of the teens with gunshot wounds. One of them, identified as Anthony Awad, sustained three gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other teen sustained one gunshot wound to his leg and was transported to an area hospital. Police recovered a Ruger 9mm pistol in a sewer grate. The gun belonged to Glover’s girlfriend, prosecutors said. Police also recovered shell casings in the middle of the Route 12 median between the southbound and northbound lanes. Glover sustained minor non-gunshot injuries from the incident and did not need medical treatment, police said. The man’s attorney, James Schwarzbach, disputed prosecutors’ claim that he brought the gun to the scene, the Daily Herald reported. Schwarzbach said during closing arguments that one of the teens had the gun when Glover confronted them. Schwarzbach said that Glover acted in self-defense when he shot them. Prosecutors said during the trial that Glover could have let the boys run away but instead shot them to keep them there, the Daily Herald reported. Glover has been held in the Lake County Jail on a $1 million bond since his arrest. The jury, which began deliberating the case on Thursday, returned the guilty verdict Tuesday. Glover’s sentence on the two charges will be concurrent with a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for May 5. |
Detectives catch sexual predator living at residence near a school in Lake Zurich Posted: 29 Mar 2022 02:43 PM PDT Detectives arrested a sexual predator who was found living in close proximity to both a school and a church in Lake Zurich, the sheriff’s office said. Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ari Briskman said detectives were recently conducting address verifications of registered sex offenders. A sheriff’s detective determined that Michael P. Feeney, 73, was not living at his registered address in the 35000 block of Wilson Boulevard in unincorporated Round Lake. Detectives later found that Feeney was actually living in a residence in the 0-100 block of Mohawk Trail in Lake Zurich, Briskman said. The residence on Mohawk Trail is located within 500 feet of a school and a church. Feeney is prohibited by law from living within such close proximity to these locations, Briskman said. State records show Feeney is a registered sexual predator stemming from a predatory criminal sexual assault case in Lake County. Feeney was convicted in 2008 of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old child in Lake Zurich in 2005. Feeney was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections as a result of the conviction, court records show. Sheriff’s detectives obtained a warrant for Feeney’s arrest for one count of sexual offender present in a school zone, a Class 4 felony. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Feeney at the residence in the 0-100 block of Mohawk Trail in Lake Zurich last week. Feeney was released from the Lake County Jail after he posted 10% of a $150,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 6. |

On Saturday, three of the five bulls had been captured and police said Monday they believed the remaining ones were in Walworth County, Wisconsin. The Johnsburg Police Department said Tuesday afternoon that all of the cattle were back home. |

Nicholas Nikolovski, 28, of Winthrop Harbor, was charged with armed robbery, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and resisting a peace officer. Demolition of Highland Park fire station begins to make way for new station Posted: 28 Mar 2022 05:03 PM PDT Crews have begun demolition of a fire station in Highland Park, which was built in 1929, to make way for a new and bigger station, officials said. Highland Park Fire Department Station 32, located at 692 Burton Avenue, was built in 1929 as a substation to reduce response times to the southern portion of Highland Park. The station was built within a renovated single-family home and was equipped with a 750 gallon per minute fire engine staffed with two personnel. In 1966, the station responded to 127 calls for service staffed by two personnel. Over 50 years later, the station is now equipped with a fire engine and an ambulance responding to approximately 2,000 calls for service annually. The City of Highland Park said that the increased demand for service and lack of space within the station “is not sustainable nor practical for rapid emergency response operations.” The city in 2016 began exploring locations to build a new station. Residents and businesses were in support of replacing the existing fire station as long as it was built on the existing site or across the street on the northwest corner of Brown Park. The city council approved the design and engineering services for the redevelopment in January 2020. It was decided the new station would be built on the existing site. Construction crews began building a temporary Ravinia fire station at Brown Park in October. Fire department personnel have since transitioned to the temporary station and city officials said that there will be no interruption to public safety services during the construction of the new station. The temporary station includes an apparatus bay and trailer that will be on-site for 12-15 months while the new station is constructed. City officials said on Monday that crews had begun demolishing the old fire station. |
